Structure
Organise the conditions associated with BI adoption into a coherent, socio-technical framework.
RESEARCH IN PROGRESS · DECISION SUPPORT
A research project examining how organisational priorities may change as business intelligence initiatives move from initial evaluation to implementation and sustained use.
THE QUESTION
Business intelligence is often described as a single adoption decision. In practice, organisations face different questions as they assess an initiative, commit resources, and attempt to integrate it into everyday decision-making. Technical readiness, data quality, governance, organisational alignment, and user involvement may remain important throughout the journey—but they may not require equal attention at every point.
THE APPROACH
Organise the conditions associated with BI adoption into a coherent, socio-technical framework.
Use structured practitioner judgement to understand how priorities may vary across phases.
Apply a transparent decision-support approach without treating managerial judgements as universal facts.
Examine whether the resulting patterns remain reasonably stable when analytical assumptions change.
THE INTENDED CONTRIBUTION
The project develops a stage-aware way of thinking about BI adoption. Rather than asking which factors are always most important, it asks which conditions deserve attention at a particular point in an initiative’s development. Its intended contribution is a transparent framework for studying adoption as an evolving organisational process—and for distinguishing between the requirements of assessment, implementation, and meaningful use.
The right priority may depend on where an organisation is in the adoption journey.
FROM RESEARCH TO PRACTICE
For organisations evaluating, implementing, or trying to strengthen the use of BI, a stage-aware review can help make the next decision clearer. Selected advisory work can support teams in:
I am open to selected advisory and collaborative projects where a structured, evidence-informed perspective can help an organisation clarify priorities and move forward with greater confidence.
